SRI GANESHAYA NAMAHA
THILLANA
A joyous culmnination

The Thillana is a joyous, rhythmic piece that marks the culmination of the main repertoire.
It is an intricate and vibrant form of pure dance that showcases the dancer’s complete mastery of rhythm, footwork, and bodily control.
This Thillana, composed by the violin maestro Shri Laalgudi Jayaraman, is a final offering to Lord Muruga, the youthful warrior-god beloved in South India. In this piece, the dancer, as a devotee, expresses a deep and eternal longing for him.
The dance also symbolically seeks the grace of his two consorts, Valli and Devasena. Their presence represents two different paths of devotion: Devasena, the divine consort, embodies formal worship and power, while Valli, the earthly consort, represents personal and natural love.
This dance carries the audience to a rousing and joyous conclusion, blending both celebration and deep devotion.
